Bob was born in Los
Angeles, CA. in 1956 to wonderful parents and grew
up in Santa Ana, CA. At the age of seven he began
taking private guitar lessons after his father had
bought him a Montgomery Wards guitar for his seventh
birthday. He was not only taught to read and write
music and play the guitar, but eventually studied
orchestration and arranging. From the beginning,
music has always been his passion.
After his teenage years of playing and singing in
various bands, Bob began doing more and more recording
session work as a singer in Los Angeles. Through
this session work he was fortunate to have a relationship
with songwriters, Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg
who wrote the song True Colors, Like a Virgin, etc.
performed by various artists throughout the 80's.
It was during that time that he really gained an
education regarding the art of producing. During
this era, Bob also joined the band Allies and were
immediately signed to Light Records before they
had even finished their demo…truly a miracle.
Allies was very much a rag-tag group of guys who
banded together to make powerful music. It was a
truly wonderful experience in Bob’s life.
The band was touring mainly east of the Rocky Mountains
and yet we were originating out of Southern CA,
so it made sense to eventually relocate to Nashville.
At about the same time, the song "Why'd You
Come In Here Lookin' Like That" had been picked
up by Dolly Parton and went to the number 1 position
on the Billboard country charts. This really helped
to encourage him as a song writer in Nashville.
Allies ran its course in 1992. There was no rift
in the band, they just felt that it was time to
put it to bed. Record sales weren't what they once
were, and it was just time.
The song Butterfly Kisses was written for his daughter
Brooke, just prior to her 16th birthday. In case
you didn't know, a BUTTERFLY KISS is when the eyelashes
of one are fluttered against the cheek or eyelashes
of another. As Bob relates the writing experience,
he was struck late one night with the reality that
his baby girl had grown up and that she would not
be under his roof for too much longer. The joy of
so many happy memories and the burden of missed
opportunities collided in his heart and the song
just poured out. The song was never written with
the expectation of it being recorded, not on his
record or anyone else's. It was simply a sincere
letter of love and esteem from father to daughter.
Bob’s newest release “Keep The Light
On” from Gambit Music Group is sure to follow
in the footsteps of his uncanny ability to reach
right to the heart of your emotions. Families and
loved ones of our military community will love this
heart-felt anthem of
assurance and homecoming. And we, back home, will
certainly keep the light on for ya.
